In its first endeavor, the Monmouth Conservation Foundation acquired and then transferred 73.5 acres of valuable wetlands to the Township of Hazlet for use as a nature study area. This breeding and resting habitat for migratory and non-migratory birds also serves as a ground water recharge area for the Bayshore region. Development here would have had an adverse effect on the wildlife as well as the drinking water of residents in that area.
